Giant Moss Frogs – Why Not?

Scattered moss frogs

I love it when the city has a sense of humor.  If you keep your eyes open as you drive through Burnaby BC, Canada, you might see some rather unusual sculptures.  My daughter was excited to see these giant moss frogs when we were out driving through town.

We had to stop and ‘play’ with them.  They are huge, as far as frogs go.  Their metallic hands (artfully formed from maple-leaves) seem to be waving at the people driving by, and they are joyfully patriotic, waving bright Canadian flags.

I don’t know who chose frogs, but I love them.  The display is part of an ongoing eco-sculpture project in the city.  According to the brochure, they represent the fragility of our land and water environments.

They don’t look fragile to me, but they make people smile.  I think that in itself is a benefit to the environment.
