The only meal dad fixes for himself is breakfast.
He lost the ability to actually brew coffee about a year ago, but still manages to make instant coffee most days. Sometimes he has trouble though. The other day he poured the hot water into the jar of grounds.
To go with his coffee, he will usually make toast. He knows to toast the bread and then spread whatever topping he wants on top. His normal choice is margerine and jam, or peanut butter. He’s taken a liking to Nutella and is glad that Hana asked me to buy a jar. (he sometimes eats it by the spoonful when he’s hunting for a sweet snack in the evenings). He started to have trouble finding his condiments, so I found a clear plastic tray to keep them contained and in his direct sight on the counter.
Lately he hasn’t been seeing his breakfast condiments, so he goes hunting in the fridge. The past few mornings he’s been pulling out a jar of applesauce and spreading that on his toast. That isn’t necessarily so bad… except that he can’t see or taste the applesauce once it’s on there, so he thinks there’s nothing there. This leads him to start hunting for something else. Yesterday he put Cheese Whiz on over his applesauce.
This morning I pointed out his breakfast condiment tray, reminding him that all his favorite toppings were there. He was quite pleased with this, so I left him to his breakfast. I came up later to see that he’d removed the jam from the condiment tray and replaced it with the applesauce, then moved the Cheese Whiz in the fridge to the spot where the applesauce normally lives.
Never a dull moment.
