About Rhinoceros Dreams

Welcome to Rhinoceros Dreams, where the chaos is real, but we still manage to come out smiling (at least most of the time).

I’m Kimiye (think: Kimmy-eh, I am Canadian after all…), and I’m the Clan-Mom to our glorious, chaotic menagerie. We are a multi-cultural, multi-national, beyond-blended family. I cook, clean, and care for three preschoolers, two teenagers, my soul-mate life partner, and an energetic puppy. I shuttle kids to swimming lessons and ballet class. I attend choir performances, band concerts, and parades. On the surface I am an awesome, multitasking maestro of family life. My reality is just a a bit of a different story.

People often describe me as quiet, kind, generous, and multi-talented. I come off as a good teacher, a great mother, a wonderful friend… All of this is a charade, however. The real me is emotionally volatile, selfish, lazy, and extremely disorganized. I’m ready now to tear down this facade and meld my outer and inner selves into one person. This is my journey. It is time to turn off the auto-pilot and emerge from the chaos.

What are Rhinoceros Dreams?

I believe we all have rhinoceros dreams inside us. When you look around you and see that your life is vastly different from what you originally imagined, you might feel that your dreams are so much bigger than yourself – bigger than they have any right to be – bigger than the realm of reasonable possibility. Your dreams are rhinoceros dreams.

When I started thinking about writing a blog, I looked for inspiration on the internet. A quick google search for the top blog sites revealed a world of organized success and perfection. I perused stylish homes, crafty DIY ideas, financial freedom, and responsible respectful children. As I wandered through these fabulous ‘rooms’, I felt more and more like a rhinoceros at a tea party. I don’t think anyone begrudged me visiting their little perfect worlds. I’m sure they would be perfectly hospitable and welcoming. Try as I might though, I really don’t fit in.

Real Life, Real Chaos - No Sugar Coating

My dreams are rhinoceros dreams. They are far bigger than myself and they seem utterly unattainable. They are my dreams, however, and I am sharing them now.

Real life, real chaos. No sugar coating. This is how it is, and it is time to deal with it. At least once a week, I will be posting something about our struggle. Sometimes it will be a success, often it will be an epic failure. That is all part of the process of raising a family, and of simply getting through life.

I hope you will join me on my journey to conquer the chaos and manage the mayhem. I tell it like it is, and hope that you might gain some insight, solace, or at the very least some humour, from our experiences.
